Play A Song

A wise man once said that with great talent comes even greater opportunity. If it’s true then talented solo artist Ruby James is truly the living embodiment of that very sentiment. Since she began her breakout career in 2006 as a solo artist the fiery-haired songstress with a voice that defies genre and definition has been blessed with a number of incredible opportunities to work and perform alongside some of the greatest names in the music business.

It all started with her debut EP “Sweet as Sin” which introduced the sultry songstress’ sublime stylings to the world at large and firmly enmeshed her into the hearts and minds of thousands all around the country. Often compared to such luminary female trailblazers as Chrissy Hynde and Sheryl Crow, Ruby James brought to the stage her stories of relationships and love with honesty and understanding that comes from having lived the very experiences she was singing about. No matter if it were a small crowd in an intimate setting or while performing in front of hundreds of people at a large festival, one thing always remained the same: The crowd lived every song with her as she performed, such is the power of her presence and vocal ability.

From stages as intimate as The Continental Club in Austin or The Viper Room in L.A. to larger concert venues like Hard Rock Live, Ruby has firmly established her credentials as a rising star. She’s captivated audiences and captured new fans on every stage she hits. From sharing stages such well-respected names as Jackson Browne, Pat MacDonald, Jane Weidlin of the Go-Go’s, Soul Asylum, 7Mary3, War and Fastball to headlining her own shows the numbers just keep mounting.

2007 has proven to be yet another exciting chapter in the story of Ruby James. Ruby is currently gearing up to release her first full-length album “Desert Rose” in the early part of autumn which she in part co-wrote with her equally talented guitarist Rene Reyes. The paring of Ruby James and Rene Reyes began slowly, but it has given way to the creation of magical and timeless music. The chemistry shared by the two has recently been compared to that of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The album is a collection of intimate songs equally engaging as her earlier work, but with a heavy helping of new depth and intimacy that places the listener in the mind of traditionalist performers like Emmylou Harris or Ryan Adams. Produced by the legendary John Avila of Oingo Boingo, Producer for two of Reel Big Fish’s album’s including the hit “Sellout”. John Avila not only produced the album, but also lent his legendary skills as a bass player, playing alongside Mitch Marine, drummer for Dwight Yokum, Mike Bolger on organ and Billy V. Malpede on keys. This is Ruby James like you’ve never heard before.

Equally impressive is the fact that Ruby also has had the incredibly rare opportunity to share a studio in Austin, Texas with Austin legends Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan, Arc Angels, and The Sextones) and his brother Will Sexton (Waylon Jennings, Dave Baerwald and Abra Moore). Not only producing, but playing on the sessions, Charlie and Will brought their legendary, classic sound to the fresh and innovative talent of Ruby James. You can expect the release of the Austin Sessions sometime in 2008.

The 2007 touring schedule has proven time and again to be equally impressive. With dates from Los Angeles to Nashville, Ruby has been burning up the miles, as well as the stages she graces with her magnificent presence always backed up by the stellar Rene Reyes on guitar. Ruby James is undeniably one act that you simply cannot afford to miss out on. Without a doubt, this is one young lady who is getting ready to take the music world by storm and 2008 is looking to be her best year yet. Ruby James just keeps on burning up the road with her indescribably good looks and powerful delivery. With talent like that she can’t help but follow that road to a bright future indeed.
