Rabanes
Originally from Panama, Los Rabanes are the first big rock band to emerge from Chitre, providence of Herrera. In their hometown is where these boys, Emilio Regueira (lead vocals and guitar), Christian Torres (bass) and Javier Saavedra (drums) formed Los Rabanes and caught the attention of their first record label. Kiwi Records, a Panamanian label noticed the band had great potential and in 1996 released their first album called, “Por que te fuiste Benito?” It consisted of 10 tracks, with its first single giving way for the album’s title. “Por que te fuiste Benito?” quickly gained lots of popularity.
The next two years were crucial to the group and were full of plenty of triumph and success. After their introduction to the Latin-American market with their hit single, “Por que te fuiste Benito?, their popularity continued to grow and began to cause a buzz in surrounding countries. The demands from anxious fans brought forth the bands first venture out to Central America and showed what they were made of. It was immediately clear that Los Rabanes would become one of the most successful bands of the Spanish Rock Movement.
Deriving from this success, Los Rabanes found themselves in Latin America on promotional tours with bands such as Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Autenticos Decadentes, Aterciopelados, Maldita Vecindad as well as Los Hijos del Quinto Patio. Los Rabanes were praised by California’s media outlets to be the Best New Spanish Rock Band. The group has shared the stage in countries such as France, Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Argentina with artist such as Sting, Ruben Blades, Paulina Rubio, La Ley and Aleknos Syntek, among others.
The success of “Los Rabanes” earned the band a nomination for Best Rock Album for a group or Duo from the Latin Grammy Association. They were also invited onto the “Watcha Tour” which visited various cities in the United States. The group shared the stage with stand out rock bands in the Spanish market such as “La Ley” and “Juanes”.
They have had the opportunity to perform at pivotal events such as Premios Lo Nuestro, El Carnival de la Calle Ocho, El Festival Broadway, and El Festival Bonzai. Their continued success granted them opportunities to take the stage alongside recording artists 3 Doors Down, Power 5000 and many others.
