Carrie Elkin
From an early age, Singer/Songwriter Carrie Elkin has connected with people across cultural, economic and social boundaries through her music. From the Lillith Fair to the subways of Boston, Carrie has found a way to tap into her listeners hearts and inspire them to be more connected and open people. Elkin grew up in the mid-west and has been told she should be a spokesperson/cheerleader for the state of Ohio. She loves the people, the sense of community, the honesty and the hard working folk of blue collar America.
Carrie first took to the stage in Athens, Ohio where she was influenced by deep rooted folk and Appalacian music from the likes of Jorma Kaukonen. Following her four year stint in Athens, Elkin relocated to the mountain west.
Elkin settled in Taos, New Mexico and connected with a vibrant music scene. During her time there, she appeared at the Albuquerque Lillith Fair alongside the Indigo Girls and Sara McLachlan. Carrie also fine tuned her craft with producer Eric Rosse (Tori Amos, John Mellancamp) and worked in Santa Fe with Tori Amos’ backing band.
Carrie then became a long-time resident of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She continued writing and performing, sharing the stage with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Sonia Dada and many other influential musicians.
Carrie is now established in Austin, Texas. Elkin recently shared the stage at the 2007 Kerrville Folk Festival and is a regular performer at the legendary Cactus Cafe. She’s been asked to perform at the 2007 Rice Festival in Fischer, Texas and will share the stage with the likes of Guy Clark, Slaid Cleaves and the Greencards.
The Jeopardy of Circumstance, Carrie’s fourth album, will be released in October 2007. The Jeopardy of Circumstance showcases Carrie’s ability to combine roots, americana, gospel, and rock into a powerful and honest collection of songs. The Jeopardy of Circumstance follows Carrie’s 2004 release The Waltz, Live at the Front Room released in 2001 and Simplicity released in 1996.
